Have to admit these QC concerns make me squirrelly. One thing to get a bargain, another thing when 'top of the line' is so often *off.*

(I mean, if they're so often *big time off* how long after dropping eight bills does it take to find out it's *slightly* off? This is not confidence.)

have you tried shooting any "real" images, or conversely, shot the same test with another lens?

but of course!!! my 70mm and 40mm limiteds are fine as is the sigma 70mm macro, the only lens that is giving me this is the 50-135. In real world shots the whole left side just doesn't look as sharp as the right on the 50-135 either ( tested that right after ).

bad luck I'd ship it back. My 50-135* is sharp across the frame.

Frankly, my consolation about stuff like this, (My FA 50 was the first brand-new lens I'd bought in 20 years, and my first copy was defective: bummer,) ....is that at least I get to *have* one for a couple bills, even if it takes a couple of tries.

I'd be less patient about it with a bigger ticket item, admittedly.

(Also, to be honest, speaking of twenty years ago, if not for the good folks here, I'd have seen that and been, 'Oh, *#&$. I was right all along, this autofocus stuff is all *#&& computerized plastic *crap,* cancel the 1.4 and send me a few bricks of HP5'

Well thanks to Amazons 30 return it goes back as soon as the post office reopens, they are 1 day shipping another, I should have it on Monday so lets cross fingers ( and toes ) that I get a good one. Despite this I really like the lens, I can understand why most consider it Pentax's best zoom but I trust primes much more, I hope pentax makes a 135mm da prime soon.

Man I also had the studio booked this weekend, I guess the trusty 70mm will be working over time.
