Show off your "milk bottle" lens pictures.

I took part in a lens discussion on the Pentaxians FB page today. I made the flippant comment that I have done on these forums before, that a good photographer can make a great picture with an old broken milk bottle selotaped to their camera mount.

So I am starting this thread so we can show what can be done with unloved lenses. Get your worst lens and go and take a great picture with it. I aim tomorrow going to get my M 50mm f2.0 lens out to showcase it's abilities. It is often regarded as the poor man's 50mm, but I have no doubt it will put up a fight.

Please post your images to this thread.

Now I am not suggesting anyone actually does selotape a milk bottle to their camera, but extra points will be awarded if you do !

Hmm, this could be interesting. But I do remember Noel making some cool pics with a magnifying glass.

Probably not too good for alcohol addiction either - how many beers are we going to have to get through to find the perfect bottle bottom?

I think that is a question of perspective (pun intended)

I'll bite

The 07 Mount Shield lens for the Q system is about as close to a milk bottle as you can get and still mount it to a camera. One element. Fixed (tiny) aperture. Fixed focus. I spent a month with it a while back and surprised myself with the occasional compelling picture:

De Oude Delft 100mm f1.4 (@f1.4) xray lens.
Set it up as close to the camera as I could - no focus control.

Ooooh, if projector lenses are allowed, I have a very cool Schneider Kreuznach 70mm (iMax) cinema projector lens.

Not sure I'd equate it with a milk bottle though. It might have no aperture (f/2.0 is all you get), but with a focussing helicoid on the 645Z it's pretty darn nice....

Mind you, there is a thread dedicated to projector lenses

Another warts-and-all shot with the Q07
To paraphrase HC-B - sharpness isn't everything.

My "worst" Pentax lens ever, apart from a severely decentered DA 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II that I quickly exchanged for a DA 16-45 mm f/4, is the FA J 75-300 mm f/4-5.6. No sharpness but surprisingly good contrast, usable between 75 and 135 mm only with any success. I still have it as I would get nothing for it if I tried to sell it but I never use it. I kept this picture that is "not too bad" after all, taken @ 90 mm FL and f/11 on a K20.
