For me, the 70 was my all rounder lens. For me it was a slightly shorter, slightly slower 77. The rendering of the 70 is every bit as nice as the 77. It gave me my favorite angle of view for portraits, and for product photography it gave ample room for lighting placement. For me, the 70 was the perfect short telephoto. It's the one lens I really miss from my APC-C days.

I have both the DA-70 and FA-77 and I think both are great lenses.
I use the DA-70 in my travel light kit (K-01, DA 15, DA 40 and DA 70) and has often pulled off nice images. But it really depends on what you want to shoot of course.

I only have one of each. My 70 is hd. My 77 is SMC.

The 70 reminds me of the old Nikon 105/2.5 and that’s a lens I really liked on 35mm. The 77 has the same basic optical design as the A* 85 which was a fantastic lens on my pz-1 but too hard to focus on my K-3. The 77 has the added benefit of being slightly less telephoto - making portrait framing distances more normal.

Well, if you carry around these lenses, and you never come to circumstances where you think- "Gee, if I had something with a bit more reach, I would like to get a shot of...." The same holds true of the DA 20-40mm DC WR Ltd lens. Having the DA 15mm and DA 70mm Ltds, with the 20-40mm as the centerpiece, you then definitely have added even more versatility. The DFA 100mm macro would extend even farther. It is also quite compact, but not nearly as much so as that trio.

For sure! I have both, and have found they are different enough so this has been justified. The DA 70 actually tested-out to be 65mm. The FA 77mm tested-out right on the button. This difference shows up out in the field. If wanting shots with more background included, the 70mm is the one of choice, especially if wanting very good edge-to-edge sharpness at all apertures. OTOH, the FA 77mm is best for emphasizing and more isolating a particular subject. It is also better for low light work. It remains among my most favored lenses.

The low profile of the DA70 Limited can also be an advantage for pet photography:

The DA70 can be a fantastic macro lens :

PENTAX K-1 • FF Mode • 100 ISO • Pentax DA 70mm F2.4 Limited

with Kenko Pz-AF UniPlus Tube 25 and Metz Flash 52 AF-1 Digital with Ray-Flash Universal L ring adapter

or without

I had the d fa 100 macro, lovely macro lens but for other uses I often found it either too short or too long. I planned on getting the 70 to solve the too long conundrum and bought a 70-200 for the too short conundrum and because I had the D Fa 100 macro, I never considered the 35.

Just buy both.

DA70 is a APS-C equivalent of a 105mm lens for FF. So it is a classic short telephoto FOV lens that can be use for many things from landscapes to portrait.
If I had to choose between 100mm and 70mm on a APS-C camera as a general walk around lens, I would most likely always choose DA70 over a 100mm macro lens, and if I also want a macro I would use the combination of DA35ltd and DA70ltd.

For me 100mm macro lenses are more a special application lenses for macro, and I do not even own one with AF.

Oops, LOL. I was about to write 135 film instead of FF.
So 135 became a typo on focal length instead.

Back to topic.

Qu es tu, as you allready have a macro and the 40 mm I can see no sense in buying the 35 limited. Especially as it is no true Pentax limited (it is a Tokina design as far as I know).

If you need the 70 ltd. I do not know and I am fear your are on your own to find it out, sorry. Best way to do so is to take a zoom lens which includes 70 mm and use it a while a that focal lens only. Then you will have a good idea if the focal lens does help you in your photography.
Additionaly you have to tak ein account, that the 70 ltd. has the typical pixi dust a portrait lens needs.

I do own a Sigma 70 mm, but I very seldom use it for portrait on my K-1 (or general photograpyh), because it lacks the pixi dust. I prefer 50 mm on APS-C instead.

There is no "instead" with the DA Limiteds, there is only "first" and "later"...

The DA 35mm is the best of the Limiteds - standard focal length, extremely good image quality, 1:1 macro... it's such an incredibly useful lens, but some of that use is covered by the 40mm that you already have.

The 70mm is excellent for anything that needs that focal length - the obvious one is portraits but it's also superb for landscapes. The only limitation on it is really that closest focus is not great.

Most of the portraits I shoot aren't publicly visible online but if you want to have a look at my 70mm Limited album it might give you an idea of what it can be used for as there's a bit of everything in there.

One of several persistent rumours regarding Pentax lenses that are alleged to be Tokina designs (think: smc DFA100 Macro WR), but are demonstrably not. The smc DA35 Macro Limited was invented by Pentax lens designers Kato Koji and Yasuo Kanazashi (source: through the viewfinder: Known and Unknown Pentax lens designers and their lenses).
