Cheapest and Sharpest Pentax?

Okay, now since I come from Nikon world, here is the question.

Which lens is something similar to canon/nikon 50/1.8 which cost hardly $100 but a great piece of glass

The pentax A 50/1.7 is good and cheap. I don't know how much better it is than the nikon 50/1.8

(EDIT: Oops I just realized, you must be thinking of the Nikon AF 50/1.8 D. The lens I mentioned is manual focus -- probably not what you're looking for.)

The FA 50mm 1.4 is a bit faster than that, and also a great piece of glass, but also a bit pricier at around $199 new. As the newer DA* 55mm 1.4 hits the shelves, though, there might be some great prices on used samples of the FA 50.

There are also a lot of manual-focus fast 50s with great optics and construction that can be had for much, much less...

Any Pentax 50mm lens will match or better the Nikkor or Canon 50mm lenses.

That would be 50/1.7. All Pentax f/1.7s are optically identical.

FYI, here is the page from Bojidar Dimitrov's "K-Mount Bible": Pentax Normal Prime Lenses

Here's a link to a discussion on the best Pentax Normal lens - a bit old (2003 was the last post, I think) - compiled from the Pentax Discuss Mailing List. Covers all 50's from K (1975) through FA (2004).
