Is this zebra Takumar fake?

Hi,

This is a lens that is offered on a Swedish "used" site.

Ovanlig Takumar , S-M-C Takumar 50mm f1.4 zebra | Köp på Tradera (585954784)

I have never seen such a lens and I cannot find it.

You could produce this, I think, by taking a normal black one and polish the black smooth surface down to the metal.

So - is this one fake? Or did Pentax make such lenses?

Or a light source/strong reflection on the shiny black surface..., assuming he used some strong light source?

No, I do not think it is lighting. Then other surfaces should also be brighter.

I think it either is a zebra versioin from Pentax or someone has polished away the black paint on those surfaces. Currently, my belief is the latter and this is a fake zebra. But ... I could be wrong there.

auto takumar 1.8 and 1.9 are/can be zebra. That 1.4 has been polished. Sad that it is being advertised as "very rare"

Answer: Yes - it's fake (modified). Not original.

That same lens sold for much less on Tradera only months back. Auction started shy above 700 SEK.

It's not a direct scam, but impressively low moral. Describing it as rare, with a sky high price to match, and avoiding telling it's not original.
Trying his best for the protentional buyer to make the wrong interpretation. Dishonest to say the least.

(And the seller is no newbie - he's a seasoned user/collector).

Given it is a 7 element SMC Tak and not an early 8 element super Tak it is not even that rare
