Your next buy?

I had to sell both my FA 31 and FA 77 earlier this year due to financial concerns. Hopefully, one or both of these will make it back into my lens arsenal this coming year.

I got plenty of old manual focus glass. They are old friends and I love them all. However my rapidly aging eyes are telling me that it is time to get a few things from the current century. I have a DA 70 so portraits are well taken care of. On the long end the DA* 300 and DA* 200 both look pretty appealing. As you can see from my signature I don’t have much on the short end. The DA 21, although a bit slow for my taste, appears to be a good lens. I’m not a big fan of zooms but the DA* 16-50, if I can find a good one, would be a versatile addition. If all goes well one of these items makes it into the bag in the New Year.

I think you're right--it's not entirely possible to stop buying lenses if you're shooting Pentax.

Let's see...what else has crossed my radar...the DA70...the DA17-70...the DA15...

Perhaps it's not a matter of if, but when...

More accurately, I can say that my my lens buying has slowed down, simply because I'm not made of money. So it goes...

the 90mm 2.8 has priority, the 43mm is just an LBA thing. although I am very much anticipating the new DA* 55mm 1.4.

I find it funny that I went from being LBA crazy to being pretty content with my kit. My last purchase was the DA35 and I only bought that one because I got a great price on it. I did give the FA43 some thought because I really like the build of the Limiteds, but the FA50 it would've replaced is a fine lens that I really like from F2 on up. Not as well built, but it does its job really well.

The only lens I'd consider adding to the present lineup is a long (90-105mm) macro lens. I kind of regret letting my Tamron 90/2.5 go so I may end up buying another one to replace it. Anything else would be LBA which is something I've gotten away from. I'll be concentrating my 2009 $$$ on lighting, backdrops, etc.

Top of my wish list at this time, the DA*300. Bit pricey but I am aiming in that direction, during the New Year.
I am fairly pleased with my lenses at this time :

Pentax M50 2.0
Pentax M135 3.5
Pentax DA*50-135
Pentax DA 50-200
Pentax DA 55-300
Vivitar Ser 1 105 Macro
Sigma 17-70.

There is question marks on some of my current lenses, I guess, and I really need to look at something a bit wider (50 1.2?) but I am fairly happy with my lot.

Sorry if this is obvious, but the 50/1.2 isn't wider than the 50/2 you already have - it's just faster. And pretty darned expensive for the marginal speed increase over a 50/1.4 or 50/1.7. Either of the latter would make for an inexpensive upgrade in speed and IQ over your 50/2, but if you want a wider angle lens, you need a shorter focal length. The M or A 28/2.8 would be fine cheap choices, or FA35 or DA21 - all depends on what you're looking for.

Yes, that's exactly why I want it - I'm able to get that effect pretty nicely at 200mm with my Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, but that thing is a monster to lug around - if I know I'm going to be shooting at 200mm exclusively, it would be nice to have a smaller option to throw on the camera that would give similar or better results.

The M 200 f/4 is wonderful, but the 2.8 or 2.5 allows more DOF magic and 3-D/specular fireworks at 200mm.

(So, yes, Tom, gimme a holler when it's time to let that baby go.

)

I know what you mean tranq78 - the K 200/2.5 is pretty special. Jay - although you will be the first I call I suspect this would be the last manual focus lens I would sell.
