Thanks for pressuring me so hard into buying this lens.

All jokes aside, this was definitely my best Pentax purchase to date. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Due to the close focusing capabilities it can do so much more then just landscapes.

Focusing issues were mentioned somewhere in this thread. I've shot 500 photos now with it, but all my focusing errors are definitely due to user error.

It's an extremely capable lens, and it's going to take a while for me to be able to use fully.
Glad you made the decision and happy that you are enjoying your new lens ! wonderful images BTW and welcome to the fold

Don't buy it because it RUINS most of your other lenses!
Since getting mine, my other wide angles don't seem to perform quite as well as I remember ;-)
hahah. imagine one complaining to Ricoh Imaging what they've done with his other lenses

It really is an issue. You should never upgrade your standards it just makes it difficult to accept what was previously fine.

I don't think that asking this crowd to talk you out of buying something works very often

Please talk me out of buying the DFA 21mm limited.

I have the K-1II, with HD FA 43 1.9, FA 50 1.4, K 50mm 1.3, FA 100mm macro, Samyang 14mm 2.8 and DFA 28-105mm. I had the FA 20mm, which I already sold, because it was sooooo very bad.

My opinion has always been that I'd rather have a few really good lenses, then a lot mediocre ones. I can only mount one at a time. And typically I only carry one, maybe 2, extra lens(es) with me. So I wanted to sell the 50 1.2, the 50 1.4, and the Samyang 14mm, add some savings and buy a new DFA 21mm limited.

Both the 50 1.2 and the 50 1.4 never get any action, because the 43 is so much sharper and cleaner. And the 14mm, which I find a bit too wide, would be replaced by that 21mm. The few reviews that I can find on the 21mm are never less then fan-tas-tic. Lots of good and logical reasons for me to initiate this plan.

But for some reason I feel like I just can't justify it. It's just so much money for one lens. Any comments that help me save money? Maybe good alternatives?
I see some arguments for a zoom (few lenses, some hesitation about focal lengths,....), so you might consider the D-FA 15-30. Not a star or limited, but a nevertheless very good F2.8 constant aperture lens.

There is only one downfall to the increased flexibility : it is more expensive that the 21mm, but you can perhaps justify it wiith the zoom range replacing more other lenses....on the long term.
Also check size and weight of both options...

Not sure if this can qualify as talking you out of things....Sorry. As someone earlier said, wrong forum for that.

I think that the main downside of a 15-30 is a very hard way of attaching the filters. The good is that you have this range, where at 15, although distorted, you can bring the subject to the front and make the composition very interesting, also having the option to "correct" this distortion at a narrower field of view by zooming in, still unfortunately, the correction point goes way past 21mm. Having said that, it's a fantastic lens, but I'd go for 21mm first.

"What's a royal ball? After all, I suppose it would be frightfully dull, and boring, and completely ... completely wonderful.”

There are alternatives, there always are. No one needs a perfect lens. Sell your camera gear! What about knitting? Making matchstick pictures? Lawnmowing? So much excitement, so little time!
