Adorama listing a lens that doesn't exist?

.

What do you make of this?

Pentax-M 50mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro

Is it really a Sigma, really the A 50 2.8 Macro, or really the M 50 f/4 Macro(both actually 1:2) ?

Or something else?

Or did this M 50 2.8 1:1: Macro just appear out of the Bermuda Triangle?

No, really - it was there. I re-read it several times, even checked the Pentax lens review forum to make sure it didn't actually exist....

Whats more, I ordered it ($99) - I figured that no matter what 50mm macro it was, it was worth $99 in E condition (M 50 f/4 = $150, A 50 2.8 = $200+, Tak 50 macro = $100... etc)

We'll see what I get and if I want to return it, but here's the invoice Adorama mailed me:

QuoteQuote:
You ordered the following items:

SKU Brand Product Qty Price Total
-------------------- ---------------------------------------- --- ----------- -----------
US 324020 Pentax-m 50 2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens *49mm E- 1 99.00 99.00

----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- -----------

Subtotal: 99.00
Tax: 0.00

Insurance + Shipping:
General Items - Standard Shipping 4-6 Business Days 6.95

The page probably disappeared because I ordered the only one, but what the heck did I actually order?!?

Update...

I called Adorama this morning, and left a message in the used dept - a very nice fellow got got back to me right away (good cust service!)

He sad that the lens had already shipped, so he couldn't verify it in person, but as far as their SKU was concerned, it's a Pentax-M 50 2.8 macro with 1:1 magnification and a 49mm filter ring.

I explained that, according to all my sources, this lens was never manufactured....

The Sigma 50 2.8 macro goes 1:1 (right?) but it doesn't have a 49mm filter ring. The Pentax A 50 2.8 macro does have a 49mm filter ring, but it only goes 1:2.

The Adorama guy said that they may have entered it into their database wrong. (I mentioned that that's the only rational explanation, unless Pentax did make an M 50 2.8 macro that no-one in te world seems to have heard of.)

I'm betting that I get either 1) a Sigma 50 2.8 macro, or 2) a Pentax A 50 2.8 1:2 macro.

I'm hoping it's the 2nd, which would mean I paid less than half of what it's worth.

M 50mm 1:2.8

Interesting that not 5 days later a new member asks how to set the aperture on an M50 1:2.8 lens lent him by his mother (cue Twilight Zone theme)

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/45925-pentax-k110d...-2-8-lens.html

I saw no such animal on Boz's site.

I have a 50mm 1:4 Macro Takumar that has a max magnification of 1:1, m42 mount. Perhaps that's what you'll get.

It is a dandy lens. I use it a lot.

There is a pentax 50mm lens f2.8 that goes 1:1. The F and FA series do this. I have the FA and it is AWESOME. You should hope that it is one of these!

Maybe it's like the "Bigfoot Lens" - Paleantologists and Biologists have never seen any evidence, but the occasional layman encounters one.

That would be very sweet.

It could very well be, but I think it's more likely a MF lens. The Adorama guy I talked to said that the person they had cataloging it was new and didn't speak English very well, so who knows what it could be.

I used to own the FA 50 2.8, sold it to get the DA 35, and yes, it's blisteringly sharp. I loved that lens.

If it's the AF or F, that's about a $280 - $380 lens - The A is probably $250. Any of the Taks are going to be at least $120, and even the Sigma is worth $100, so, yeah, I can't really lose....?

Strangely enough, this episode has made me more likely to cruise Adorama's site, now - who knows what else will pop up! (Loch Ness Monster?)

I couldn't identify from your posting who you might have been in contact with at Adorama - but obviously, when it arrives, if you aren't completely happy with it please contact me with your order number and I will take care of it for you - or you can contact Joel in the used department (joelm@adorama.com), directly.

Sincerely

Thanks Helen, I was always confident Adorama would make it right if I had any problems. As it stands, I'm excited to see what I actually get and have been treated very well by your folks so far. No worries.
