Just to give you an Idea, if you think that a chonker this is it next to the Dfa 15-30mm on the left and the Dfa 70-200mm on the right. This was taken with another full frame lens the Smc F 35-70mm, which is miniscule in comparison.

Wow! I hear that the 24-70 is also pretty hefty.

And yet it is still lighter than the old FA* 28-70. Fast zooms on FF aren’t small or light generally.

Yes, I was advised in a previous thread that the 24-70 was NOT a walkaround lens (for most people) which is why I got this one.

Side note: My friend returned from a trip to Japan. He was in Yodobashi Camera store and there was a Viridian K-1 II on display, with a huge sign that said "not for sale". He is a Nikon guy but he said the camera was "gorgeous".

My experience is that even though logic would say the 16-85 is the APS-C equivalent, the 28-105 works great on APS-C if you can forego the wide end.
Mine has good edge to edge sharpness stopped down a bit eg from f/7 but even at f/5 I find it pretty sharp with just a slight softness at the corners.
That doesn't really bother me as I mostly use it for landscapes around f/8 where the whole frame is sharp for me.

If you want to try out real world tests as opposed to technical lab type tests, find some subjects that have fine detail across the frame.

I ended up with mine because one came up at about 1/3 the price of the best deal I could find on a 16-85, and I have a DA 12-24, so I only have 4mm focal length not covered, and I can generally zoom with my feet to cover that range.

I also have an old Tamron that my camera detects as an FA-28-105, but with a different, and much inferior optical formula, but looking at my metadata in Lightroom, it's surprising how much I've used it and the D-FA 28-105.

Dad had a 35mm Franka film camera with a 45mm/2.8 non interchangeable lens that he took hiking and produced some memorable photos with it, and 28mm is 42mm equivalent on APS-C, so although I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire a 28-105 for APS-C and probably not at all if I already had a 18-135 or 16-85, if you don't already have one of these other lenses, in my experience, it's a keeper, even on APS-C

The only issue I have with mine is a stiff zoom ring.

I'll be interested to know how you find it.

The stiff zoom ring must be normal as the one I just got has a very stiff zoom ring too. No complaints since most zooms I find too easy to move, but much stiffer than other lenses I've used.

Zoom ring seems same as my 18-135, my 20-40 and my Tam 18-250. My 55-300 is a bit looser. Both DAL 18-55s and my Sigma 70-300 very loose in comparison.

Buy a film camera with auto setting. You will have to manually focus but it will give you an idea of the lens characteristics. Be careful not to fall victim to the film bug.😁

Unless Pentax Oz is willing to sell to a US person with US money and ship to US person in US, then they are messing with me. I emailed them.
