Ditto... those 2 shots are great! I returned my 16-50 Friday so I should have the replacement by the end of next week. I hope it was just a bad copy because as I said in my original post the fit & finish of the lens is great. It has that L feel to it but optically it was really bad wide open & not very sharp at F5.6, it wasn't just a lack of sharpness it was bad focus & an odd halo affect around highlights. But the 50-135 was drop dead sharp in the same test shots, so I am holding out hope.
I guess I will have to wait & see what I get

The DA* 16-50 that I received a week ago from B&H has no problems that I can detect, other than CA and I knew that going in. It's fixable in PP. Here's a bright lit mountain shot from today. Full frame, with Hoya "Moose" 77mm circular polarizer. (This filter is like a combo 81A + Polarizer). The only post processing was to reduce the file size and convert it to jpeg.

The mountain is Crowsnest Mountain, found in the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta, Canada, not far East of the British Columbia border. I took this out the driver's door window down. It was -20 C (-4 F) and I was not walking out there!!!!

It's not a portrait lens?
Its not a "portrait" lens like the Canon 135/85mm etc is what I meant. Not that it can't do perfectly well at portraits.

And those are studio shots with studio backgrounds, not exactly what I was referring to with subject isolation and blur/bokeh.

This is very encouraging... the more good shots I see here the more I think I must have gotten a bad copy (really bad). I got it from 17th Street photo, they will receive the returned one Monday and hopefully ship out the replacement ASAP. I can't wait to get my hands on a good copy of this lens.

Not even the right picture and that price is waaaaay to low. Their rating is fairly high, but man that is price gouging and a half.

I just called them to confirm this price and they said it is correct even if the picture is not right. They said they sold the last one yesterday, but would have more in soon and the price would be $699.99.

Ummm for an online presence the ability to add to BASKET is rather important as next the payment screen comes along - Let someone know (webmaster) could have been a recent upgrade , feature that was added etc.. I guarantee something changed recently.

That is a pretty sweet price allright - maybe a sign of things to come (still the better part of $1k here)

Well, from about ~29mm to 50mm, it's "telephoto", right?

Of course, it stands to reason. Since I just paid $899 for one about a month ago, someone was sure to have one for $200 less.

Go figure.

Darn you!

I just ordered one. So far so good. I did a search at the other camera forum and it seems a lot of the Canon and Nikon guys order from them. I literally didn't turn up any complaints there.

Resellerratings was also good, but those ratings are sometimes stacked by shills for the company, so I take them with a grain of salt.

All in all, it seems like a good deal.

Now I'm finally done with my BBA/LBA compulsion for now. In the past 2 weeks, I've purchased the K10D, the 50-135, the 16-50 and the 77 Ltd. Now I need to package up a lot of other gear to sell to make room and raise funds for my photography trips!
