Not necessarily more useful, just different. Me, I'm taking pictures around very active young kids and I'll take all the protection I can get. I imagine it's somewhat similar to all the professional models Ben works with.
I use a relatively nice multicoated filter and have never noticed any image degradation, even though obviously every extra bit of glass makes a theoretical difference.
But really, let's not start that argument again -- you can find plenty of it in the archives of this forum or on thousands of other web sites. Instead, I'm eager to hear what Ben thinks about the new lens.
