Any wide aperture (F1.2/F1.4/F1.7) 50mm lens is considered to be a "Fast Fifty".

The FA50 is probably the most popular of the Fast Fifties...

I agree with most on the FF : Fast Fifty !

You can do this with a FA50/1.4

Get some el-cheapo Close up set ( +1 , +2 , +4 ) . Screw them on just like a filter then shoot . Not bad for a "macro" option . Your kid will like this stuffs for sure .

FA50/1.4 + DOT+4 filter

You can sometimes find the wonderful Tamron 24-75 F2.8 second hand for about $300-350
Think you mean 28-75mm. For those on the market it can be had new for $408 Canadian (APPROX 342us) at Camera Canada.

I'd avoid the $1 made-in-India ebay extension tubes. They fail to hold the lens securely, they have a large hole near the release "button" and the ones I got had a tiny protruding screw which could scratch the lens mount unless you unscrew it a little.

To make the attached photo, I used M 50mm F1.7 (at around F8) and the made-in-China, "Massa" extension tubes. The photo should probably go under "lens fetish," as well.

BTW, the original poster wanted AF. Kenko's AF tubes are definitely more expensive.

EDIT: The original PNG looked much sharper, of course. :/

The close up filter set I got , free , is "DOT" made in Japan , purely metal and glasses . I'm sure the OP can get some thing along $30 USD or less with the same quality . Not true macro but will allow him and his kid to do some nice fun shots .

This is a shot with all the filters stacking up on FA50/1.4 ( +7 in all )
