More product photos

The product photos I took last week were awful so I decided to re-take some of them. These new photos are still bad, but at least they aren't hideously bad.

I have also posted some closer images comparing the Samyang to each of the fast 85s and 77s.

From left to right: 2 FA77mm F1.8 Limiteds, Pentax A*85mm F1.4, Pentax FA*85mm F1.4, Samyang 85mm F1.4, Nikkor AF-D 85mm F1.4.

Samyang 85 and Nikkor 85

Samyang 85 and Pentax FA*85

Samyang 85 and Pentax A*85

Samyang 85 versus black and silver Pentax FA77 Limiteds

Finally, a couple more photos of the Samyang

Yes, I noticed that later... But I think that's at f/1.7.

I'll have one by next week, so I'll also post some images taken with a K20D. It won't be as thorough or as well written up as the excellent review tranq78 has done in this thread, but I promise to nail focus, unlike on most of those Korean forum sites

I'll make sure to shoot some subjects that will show off sharpness/color/contrast/bokeh/flare wide open & stopped down, Then after a month or so may put it up for sale in our marketplace for what I paid minus a fair monthly rental fee.

I didn't realize a week takes this long ...anyhow, once you get your lens, I wonder whether you can give a subjective comaprsion of it to the Jupiter-9 you had sold, from memory. Thanks.

Dear James,

Thanks for your email.

There was a defect in the mount of the lens. It will not fit to a Pentax
mount camera.

Anu

Hi - were you just sent the wrong mount type (Nikon, etc) , or was it a defect in the Pentax K-mount?

Thanks, -Jay

So, still a little vague - but it doesn't appear to be an optical defect.

Re J-9 - I won't have to rely on memory, I have another J-9 on it's way from
Russia, should be here maybe around the end of the month. (successful auction
lowball offer )

A couple more portrait 100% crops

While I am waiting to see other poster's results with this lens, I thought I would post a couple more 100% crops wide open. Photos taken by a friend with a Canon 20d and K-mount to Eos adapter. These seem much sharper than my attempts, guess I have to practice manual focusing.

Those look pretty good for f/1.4 - but what exactly is the K-to-EOS adapter, does it
place any glass in between the rear element and the sensor? I think the Nikon
K adapter does this to preserve infinity focus, and it degrades IQ a bit...

Hi,
The K mount to eos adapter doesn't use any glass and does focus to infinity. I think it is only usable on crop sensor cameras though, because the flange and aperture lever interferes with the mirror on full frame cameras.
Looking forward to you receiving your copy of this lens.

Maybe you can have mine for near what I paid after I'm done with it.

I really want to test this lens out, but have two other 85's and the 77ltd already,
and my new-year's resolution (well, one of them) was to PRLBA. So I may not keep it.

Another Polar/Samyang review:
Nikkor_Polar_Review ?(JSVFOTO?)

It's looking good as a nice portrait lens...I just wish it had AF but there's no need for that w/ portraits...

Thanks Lowell, I had found that site and my computer tells me this site is dangerous. Password and confidential info thief. It's the first time I've had these wild warnings pop up and as a result I didn't open it.

Hmm.. I get the same thing. Apparently someone or something has reported that
as a dangerous, virally-loaded site. May not be legit, but it's been flagged...

This is the seller that had the lens I bought --> onlinedigital.

Mine hasn't shipped yet, they're still waiting for the new batch.
