Pentax-A 24mm f2.8: Is this fungus?

Dear all,

Today I discovered something inside my lens, and I'm wondering if this is fungus (see attached images). If so: Is there a real danger, that it will spread to other lenses (or to the camera)? How difficult is it to clean as a beginner?

Best,
Trembel

It could well be fungus, or simply condensation or more problematic, balsam separation. Here is a link to a disassembly guide to the A series lenses. You will importantly need a set of JIS screwdrivers( not phillips or another type of cross head), and a spanning wrench.

Fungus spores are everywhere.... in your other lenses and camera already. It is only a damp/humid environment that allows them to grow. Keep plenty of silica gel pouches in your bag and lens bags and you wont have a problem.

I had a lens look like that and it was oil from the mechanism that had vaporized and redeposited itself on the lens elements... I got it cleaned professionally, and it was fine.
