Do you use Primes only, zoom only or both?

Most of my shooting day to day is with a prime. I tend to use my zooms on travel occassions or if I am bored and haven't put on on my camera for a while. Will take one out and shot with it for a bit so they dont feel too neglected

I usually shoot landscapes with zoom just because zooms are more flexible.
And I usually shoot only landscapes.
But I prefer primes.

I want to use zooms

not so easy with Pentax to find a good zoom
other then the 50-135 .
I would love to use this tread to ask you guys for a recommendation for Pentax zooms that you love.
I am personally living in a dream of a FF Pentax in a few years so I tend to buy FF glass just in case. and good FF zoom for Pentax are either not exist any more or very very hard to find even here in NYC.

don't get me wrong I love my Pentax primes more then any zoom. that is why I choose Pentax to begin with.

Both - depends on the situation. Use a prime most of the time

You don't make sense!

I do prefer primes, but have been experimenting with different zooms lately. If I know what my subject will be then it is easy to pick the right prime. But it is also nice to have the flexibility of a zoom every now and then.

K,
I use both, because of the crop factor FF wide angles primes aren't wide anymore and DA wide angle primes are too expensive for my budget. My DA16-45 does a decent job though. I do what ever works within my budget.

I use both, my first Pentax yera I used zooms exclusively (I only had one prime but that one was soon relegated to "paperweight" status where it remains until today), but everything changed the moment I got my hands on DA40ltd. That lens lives on my camera and is responsible for around 50-60% of my annual keepers. The rest of it is distributed between F50/1.7, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 105 and few shots from SMC 400/5.6... I'm mainly looking at primes as my following purchases but I don't thik I'll get rid of Sigma 10-20 anytime soon, so I think I'll stay in "both" camp for a while...

I use both, with zooms doing much of the work on trips and primes when I have more time to play.

High quality zooms are too good these days to ignore amd make travel with just a few lenses possible.

Dave already mentioned, that at some focal lengthes, you don't have a choice. So I use the Sigma 10-20 for ultrawide shots, though I prefer the image clarity of the Pentax 15/3.5, whenever it is wide enough.

The lens in residence on my cameras is either the 18-50/2.8 (now replaced with a 16-50) or the 31mm limited. I would guess the zoom is more often used, as it is simply convenient and image quality is good enough. In the tele department it is 70-200/2.8 most of the time. Only if I need something longer I go for 300mm or 400mm or 500mm primes. At least the 300mm and 400mm lenses are noticeably better, than the Sigma 50-500, which I use under bright light only. The old Pentax 500/4.5 is rarley used by me (really bulky) and I guess, the Bigma is a real threat to it.

For macro, which I love, it is clear, that only dedicated macro prime lenses are the right choice. Otherwise I usually have all the important focal lengthes covered by zooms and by mostly two primes (one lightweight and slower, one fast and heavier)...

Similar for me, except it's not travel that makes me use a zoom - it's day trips where I *know* I'll be outdoors all day and be back before it gets dark. My zooms are all slow, so I only take them with me if I'm not also going to want to have primes with me. Oh, and like Dave says, if I know in advance I'll need something wider than 28mm.

both

Primes are for purity and preferred.
Zooms are for convenience and a compromise. Just make sure you got good ones.
