SMC Pentax-DA 17-70mm F4 AL [IF] SDM ???

I have a K10D with the kit lens & I have a SMC Pentax-DA 10-17mm F3.5-4.5 Fish-Eye ED [IF]. So I'm in the market for some more lenses. I'm thinking about the Pentax-DA 17-70mm to replace my kit lens. Or maybe the Pentax-DA 18-250mm for all kinds of coverage.

Now I've heard the 17-70mm is a bit soft focus at 50-70mm, has anyone had any problems with this? Some people even say just keep the kit 18-55 lens & save the money. Any thoughts?

And on the 18-250mm I've heard you need to lock the zoom b/c there is lens creep because of the weight. Is this a big deal, are there any other things about that lens I should be aware of?

If I had the cash I'd get both, but I don't so it's gonna be 1 or the other.
