SMC Pentax 30mm f/2.8 samples?

If all goes well, I have the chance to get the 30mm f/2.8 SMC Pentax. I know it from the Lens Database on this forum, but I'd like to see more samples of this lens. What makes this lens special and why? It seems a little strange that Pentax sold such an odd focal length (30mm) when the sharp SMC Pentax 28mm f/3.5 and SMC Pentax 35mm f/3.5 were also available. I do know that it's rare, but it is worthwile to get one? Please post your shots!

Thanks for the link! I need to register to see the pictures, but I will do that just to see the results with the lens.

I have not posted any from my copy of the lens but the pictures that you get are very nice. Here is a link to the thread that made me want to buy the lens

I had it, it has good colour rendition and it is enough sharp. It is rare.

Uncommon, but not really rare

This lens was only made for a brief time frame, unlike some other lens designs that were carried to the M series and A series, etc...

I had one, and it was a fun little MF lens, focused well and was built well... Then I received a M series 28 f3.5 which was much sharper, albeit slower, so I sold the 30. In my experience (and other's opinions could differ based on sample variation and how each individual lens has been treated the last 20-30 years) that the M28 3.5 was sharper and had better contrast than the K30 2.8 and the M28 2.8. Stopped down, though still a nice lens with good color and look.

Still the 30 being a neat item to have and collect and the 28 3.5 being more practical for shooting. All these lenses have 5 aperture blades and their resulting pentagonal shaped bokeh takes a bit getting used to, so be aware of that before getting this lens for that type of application.

KEH usually has one or two for sale it seems like. I think their rarity inflates their price a bit too much.

Piotr: Very nice work with this lens, one of the reasons I picked one up!

Hi!

Try Yoshiko Takinami page, see this link , he is really enthusiatic about this lens. Check:

P&F0004, 1999

Check his resolution tests also, got good results (in case you are interesting in resolution)

Not according to Yoshihiko's resolution tests - the K30/2.8 beat all the 28's except the M28/2. Of course, his tests were also based on single lens samples and hence subject to that variation, but they were extremely well-controlled and thorough with regards to methodology:

Guys, thank you very much! I have seen enough examples to know that I simply want the lens. So LBA has hit me hard

I'll check back when I have obtained the lens.
