Oh here we go...why would you "hate" the 18-250? That makes no sense.

I thought it was rather obvious from the start that the Tamron sourced 18-250 would be temporary. There are lots of discontinued lenses that are still popular. It's a good lens, I'll keep mine. Hopefully the replacement will be even better.

I don't see why this is a problem unless Pentax is left without a superzoom for an extended period. Lots of people seem to be buying DSLR's who don't want to bother with lens changes and want range like a bridge camera.

I'm sure he meant 'hate' in a pretty casual sense. Just because I hate eating liver doesn't mean any liver-likers should take offense. Lots of gearheads (myself included) aren't particularly attracted to superzooms, preferring to buy/carry/switch multiple lenses in exchange for modest performance benefits.

I for one am glad that I have my 18-250 for occassions such as spending the days at Disney or the beach. It's a great "outdoor, full daylight" zoom...

Thanks, Andrew you sumed up pretty well my thoughts with the slight ammendement that IMO even the DA 18-55 II + DA 55-300 combo provide better performance for most of the range if not all and with better lenses the performance benefits aren't modest at all - obviously at far greather price. Besides like I said before in this thread Pentax should be ashamed by not having its own design and again IMO they need to come out with a motorised, weather sealed and better optically than 18-200 from the competition.
