DA18-250 is discontinued

DA18-250 is not in production. Maybe contract with Tamron is finished...

Do you have a link or press release that announces this, or is this a rumor?

Unlikely. Sigma never licensed mount use so first-party manufacturers don't play well with them.

I may have misread the first post Thought the OP was asking where to buy one and I was just suggesting a possible alternative

Probably its being replaced by a 18-270 or something like that.

I'd hazard a guess it'd be replace by the 18-270 as well.
Have heard good reviews so far from the Tamron as well (from a few Canonites).

Ogl is a nice and harmless chap but information he doesn't have. Talking about his "prediction" for Photokina in response to you saying he "predicted" K-m:

one of mine about him:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/345493-post312.html

And about K-m some of us knew the whole datasheet of the thing from May-June (and had beta cameras in September) simply because Pentax/Hoya put it on their dealers intranet and made no big fuss about it. Now very few people know something for sure and I can guarantee you that with his past of "telling in the evening on the fora what he was told in the morning" a fellow like him can't have any meaningful connections.

It's nothing personal, just the way things go.

What will come could be either plain boring, revolutionary for our system or anything in between but please understand that the very few that know don't talk and the many that talk don't know! And I want to believe that Hoya went to this extraordinary lenghts just because it has something good.

Regards,
Radu
