I am by no means an authority on this topic, but I am a big fan of the FA50 1.4, and the Sigma 30mm 1.4.
Here are samples from both. These were all shot indoors without a flash.

Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions/advice on selecting my first set of prime lenses. I have a k10d and would like to shoot indoors without a flash (museums, etc) and would like to get one or two to get me started. I've looked and some online stores and many of them seem to be back ordered. thanks for help.

The 31ltd, 43ltd or 50 f1.4 are all fine lenses. However, I will throw in another option for consideration, Sigma EX DG 24mm f1.8, I have used this lens in exactly the situations you talk about with great results. I now use the 43 ltd as the Sigma broke, but the shots from that Sigma still appeal.

The down sides of the Sigma are that it is a lump of a thing and it will flare if you point it any where near the sun or bright light source.

Up side is you may get a surprise at the price IF you can find one.

Cheers.

Great Examples

RT1,

excellent , just what I was looking for. some actual real life examples. I thing right now after reading through everyones responses I'm leading towards getting either the 35 f/2 or 50 f/1.4 and the 16-45 f/4 to cover the wider FOV that I might need indoors. thanks for taking the time to post some photos.

+1 for the FA35 f2.0
+1 for the FA50 f1.4

Love both lenses very much. FL is up to you as to whether they will work for you, but both are good wide open and are very versatile.

Good luck!

16-45 is a great lens but frankly low light indoors is not its strength. It totally depends on how/what you shoot, but any fast prime is going to be your best bet. I personally don't "see" wide, so I find that 43/1.9, 58/1.4 or 77/1.8 are my preferred lenses. But you may see the world differently.
