Take a look at the FA 35/2, as well. It has no macro, of course, but is fast (both in lens speed and AF) and (if I remember correctly) is actually a bit lighter than the DA 35.

I've got both an FA 35/2 and DA 40 - I use them equally.

Don't have much choice where I live sadly... =(
But I'd prefer macro over the 1stop speed advantage anyway.. =)

Makes sense. Realistically, the FOV isn't that *different* and better to go a little too wide than not quite wide enough, since you can always crop.

But to make this clear, do you think I'm much better off with a fastish lens (i.e. f/2.8) than, say, a Metz 48 / 58?
Entirely a matter of taste. I generally prefer shooting without flash - it's far less obtrusive, and I usually prefer the look on natural light, even if it means shooting at high ISO and maximum aperture. But others have the opposite preference, or are good enough at controlling flash that you can't tell the difference. That's all well and good, but the obtrusiveness of it still gets to me.

Also which of the two lenses is sharper full open?
I don't have both to compare directly, but from what I've seen, either are sharp enough that I doubt you'll be complaining.

Go DA35 Limited

I have the DA 35 Limited and it is glued to my K10D. With the macro it is a very versatile lens. The images are worthy of the Limited label.

I'm not saying you'll be disappointed with the 40 but I know you'll love the 35
