F / FA 50mm 1.7

Are the F and FA 50mm 1.7 bascially the same lens?
I know that the designs are different but I am wondering if they are optically similar.
I have a chance to pick up a F 50mm 1.7 for about 60 Canadian, so I am wondering if it should be the same caliber as the FA which I know many people love...

I don't know, but it doesn't matter. That lens in good working order is a steal at that price these days.

Regards,
Mike

Well I guess thats the other part of the question. IF its not similar to the FA model. Is the F series a good performer?
Thanks for the response X Man

All of the f1.7s, M through FA, have the same optical formula and six-blade aperture. The price is excellent.

had the FA50 but switched to the F50 which i think is a better bokeh to me but there are plenty of examples of what the F series lens can do in the following thread

$60 Canadian - if the lens isn't damaged - is a no-brainer. It's worth at least twice that, Buy it immediately.

Images.

EDIT: Gokenin already linked. But look through that thread twice anyway, then buy the lens!
