are 6x7 lenses good on digital bodies?

has anyone tried out the Pentax 6x7 lenses on a digital aps-c body? I see ebay has some 6x7 adapters for around 70-ish... there was a thread on the "other" site and the op had some pretty sharp bird pics w/ good color and contrast I thought. But I think he had 645 lenses. So are these 6x7 lenses huge and heavy? If these things have good image quality, there's potentially some more good glass to be had for not too much so long as there aren't significant feature compromises in the backwards compatibility for digital bodies.

I'm considering the same thing. Just sold my last 6x7 lens (macro), and the image quality was awesome on that camera. I haven't tried it on the K10 or K20, but am very curious.

Optical quality is generally not a problem. the cumbersome nature of such large lenes on a small digital body can be somewhat challenging in some situations. 67 lenses are much heavier than their 35mm counterparts and can only be manually set. At smaller apertures it can be difficult to focus on your subject.

All that said, while I don't use my 67 lenses on my digitals, I do use my many 645 lenses on my K20 even with the challenges imposed by stop down metering. Lens output is top notch.

I am the one that posted the 645 photos on the K20D and have used 67 lenses also, but only on film cameras like my MZ-S. The quality is extremely good, although everything is manual like using M42 lenses on the DSLR, since there is no way to transmit the electrical signals to the camera body from the lens.

The 645 lenses are large and the 67 lenses are even more so, they do not stop down automatically and have to be stopped down manually which as mentioned above can be a problem at the smallest apertures.

I personally would not buy them just to use on a DSLR since they have started to go up on price lately, but since I already have them they are fun to use once and a while.

I've only once used a 6x7 lens on a DSLR, that being a 300mm f/4 on the K10. I was pleasantly surprised.
I recall some years back seeing a lens resolution chart on a number of medium format lenses which placed the Pentax 6x7 lenses on the low end of the resolution numbers, but still quite acceptable.
The images may not be quite as crisp as you are used to, especially if you are using excellent quality primes on your digital, but I expect that the results will be as good as what you'll see from a decent quality zoom lens.

Excellent replies; thanks everyone! That's exactly the info I was after. It's strange that the prices of these are going up... I wonder what could be causing this?
