My main mistresses are street and travel photography. Last summer I spent a week in Paris with Canon 5D + grip + 28-300L zoom. Pictures were nice, but my neck hurts still... So, after a thoughtful concideration and canon 50d I decided for Pentax, to get the best possible quality in most compact size. So, my travel kit (my only kit, actually) is k20D (800 gr) with Da21 (140 gr), Da40 (90 gr) and Da70 (130 gr) and mostly unneccesary Metz 48 (340 gr). For viewing and storage I have HP 2133 mini-pc (1270 gr) which is much bigger than the Epson P3000 I used to have, but it has appr. 100 Gb free disk space, 8,9 inch display, it runs Bridge, ACR and Photoshop CS3, has an internet connection and can take notes, too. All this fits nicely into my Billingham Hadley Pro, and neck does not hurt. For occasional needs I carry a tripod (Slik Sprint Pro II GM, 890 gr) in it's own bag like a rifle. And, if I want to take a walk with very light gear, I'll fit body and those three lenses and acc into a Domke F-5XB which is much smaller than my wife's handbag...

But would this combination not be too heavy for a travel setup?
My kit is a K10D, DA* 16-50mm, DA* 50-135mm, Lester A. Dine 105mm Macro, FA 31mm LTD, and Sigma 100-300mm f4. These all fit snugly in a Tenba backpack. The total weight is somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds all told. I haven't done any serious traveling since I've had all of the stuff but I have lugged it around on several mile hikes through state parks and such. Usually I just take a lens or 2 with me though, if I'm doing a walk around in a city or something.

When it does come time to travel seriously I wouldn't mind carrying it all if it means I'll miss as few shots as possible. I'm young and a 20 pound pack doesn't bother me, yet.

My goodness your lineup is to photography what the New York Yankeees are to baseball. That is awesome! Best of luck.

The same thing applies to tractors, lawn mowers, tillers, etc. Never buy anything that's too big for your partner to handle!
