This is par for the course with my Tamron 18-250. I was disappointed for a little bit, but now find it doesn't bother me unless I'm shooting a blue sky. Usually, the lens correction in post processing will take care of it, but I usually don't bother.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it's a common problem with this lens; in fact, it obviously is given the comments in this thread.

However, a noticeable dark corner at 50mm and f/8, which isn't close to either the zoom or f-stop limit? That seems a bit much.

I shoot a lot of landscapes, so I've absolutely got to have a clean sky. If the defect were in one of the lower corners I might not worry about it.

If it is normal and can't be fixed, the lens won't work for me, but the upside is that I'll be able to sell it for a reasonable price.

I've been thinking of trying to get ahold of the Sigma 18-125. It's a little lighter and maybe doesn't suffer quite so severely from image circle problems. It seems rare in the Pentax mount, tho - no copies on eBay or KEH and I haven't seen it go by in the marketplace.

Quick update:
  1. Sent the lens back, as directed. It arrived March 30. I included a note explaining that I needed it back April 10 for a trip (note that when I spoke with Pentax in March after the 1st repair, she indicated that this would be OK).
  2. April 10: No lens. No word from Pentax. Spoke with Pentax support; apparently they decided to replace it. The rep suspected it would be shipped imminently, so I asked them to hold it until April 24 when I was back. They agreed.
  3. Return from trip: no lens.
  4. Today, I spoke with Pentax support again. No explanation for why they hadn't shipped the replacement. The case was "escalated" and supposedly I'll hear from a supervisor within a couple of days.
