People say the 135-400 is sharper as well is the Bigma 50-500 at the long end. I've never used either, just repeating what I've seen here and at "the other place!"

Green = sharpness and Red = contrast

SIGMA 170-500mm f5-6.3

=====================================================

SIGMA 50-500mm f4-6.3

SIGMA 70-200mm f2.8

SIGMA 70-300mm f4-5.6

SIGMA 80-400mm f4.5-5.6

SIGMA 100-300mm f4

SIGMA 135-400mm f4.5-5.6

All of these lenses with the exception of the 70-300 are in and around $1000-$1300 which can make them potential candidates to the 170-500.

Sigma 135-400mm

I actually own the Sigma 135-400mm. I use it a lot for my sports photography. It really produces sharp images. Here is an image I shot with the 135-400mm, shot at 400mm. I now shoot with a K10D but this image was shot with a *istDL.

Looks like it could have been a good lens to have. It was going for 575 canadian dollars, used less then 10 times, but is now sold

cheers

Its a pretty good price for the condition. But remember its going to be really big and heavy and unless you really aim to use it on an outing, its going to be extra weight. Its quite slow too so usage maybe limited to bright days.
