Limited Silver or Black

Are there any differences with the color of the limited lenses? Does silver or black indicate what generation are they from or is it just there for personal preference? Thanks.

The silver ones got plastic lens elements to compensate for the more expensive outside.

Just kidding. As far as I know, they've got identical optics and performance. Just a matter of taste.

And the tastes are numerous!

Depending on your location, the silver version may be slightly cheaper than the black version. Both versions are identical optically and perform the same. It all boils down to personal and aesthetic preference. If by chance you need to add a filter with a silver finish to match, it may be a bit hard to get hold of one. For the uber stealth look to match your black body, then black is the way to go. Some eye candy...

"Black" colour seemed to be preferred traditionally by pentax users. At least on the forum. And it seems to possess more re-sale value in the ebay.

Personally, I start to like silver version. Yes, wear and tear is easy but the silver is really a unique colour on its own. I now wish to collect everything in silver colour!

From personal experience, I find the clear coats of the black limiteds flake off relatively easily. The silver limiteds have a matted finish and don't seem to have the same problem. All in all, both are beautiful in their own way. You can't go wrong.

Actually for the FA Limiteds, silver ones seem to be harder/better on the surface finishing, they don't get scratched as easily as the black ones

I used to like the black ones. But after I seeing some slight paint loss on the edge of the FA31 (due to the lens cap), I changed all to silver ones

Here are the black ones I used to own:

And my current silver collection:

frank, you are a true collector of lenses and a great photographer too.

My Fa 77 ltd is of black colour and is suffering from some paint loss on manual focus ring... I used the lens a little too much I guess...

I am thinking of getting a second one in silver version

I challenge both you and Frank to find silver rear caps to match.
Without them it looks like unfinished business to me

How about a can of spray paint?!

Oh by the way, when keeping these in the pouches do you keep them front lens up or down?

Silver if you are using on film body with silver accents.
Black if you are using on DSLR.

Using silver on DSLR looks like you are trying to draw attention to yourself.

Agreed, this is the reason I went with black on my K10D. Although the silver is beautiful I didn't think it would go well on the black camera.
