Splitting Hairsssss

Hey everybody!

Happy Australia Day!

Im about to purchase one of these, which is better?

Which is sharper wide open?

Any other Differences?

Ummm Mate are you suggesting i go 1.4? or did you misread? Big night??

Based on reviews im inclined to get a 1.7 as they are said to be sharper wide open.

Cheers

Check with KEH, they get them in fairly regularly, usually for around $150.

Re do

Ha Ha - I bet its getting late wherever kristoffon is, so I'll add some links to the list. There is a cult of Pentax f/1,4 users here and everywhere people talk about Pentax.

An f/1.7 lens might be sharper than an f/1.4 lens wide open - because the smallest aperture is larger - better to compare them at 1.7 than 1.4 and 1.7 . Here are the better links.

Stan's comments Brief Comments When you get there, click 50 mm Lenses - . . . which is better?

F and FA commented one after the other from this link: Brief Comments

The optical formulas appear identical from the website
F 50/1.7
FA 50/1.7

There are some here who say the F version is a tiny bit sharper at the wider apertures and they close up around 5.6. It wouldn't be enough for me to tell any difference, though.

FA 1.7 is hard to find, but F 1.7 is still available for pretty cheap price. I recommend to get a FA 1.4. Just a bit more tha nthe F 1.7.

Everything i have read tells me the 1.7 is sharper wide open and up to 2.8, 90% of my band shooting happens there...

Are you aware of this fact?

Do u know something i dont?

respectfully
