"Accidentally" bought an Auto Promura 200mm

So i "accidentally" won this just now....

M42 mount Auto Promura 200mm constant f3.5 lens - eBay Film Camera Lenses, Lenses, Photographic Accessories, Cameras. (end time 27-Jan-09 14:33:37 AEDST)

Will probably receive it next week.

Anyone know anything about it?

And for those wondering how you can "accidentally" buy something... well, i bid with a couple hours to go just for the hell of it - not really thinking i'd win since I wasn't sitting around at the computer protecting the bid, so anyone could've sniped it easily... heh

I know that bidding trick, put in a furphy bid expecting to be well out of contention and you get adopted by another lens. As to knowing anything about the lens, I can't say I can help you there, try our old friend Google, it provided me all the dirt I ever need to know about an Isco Gottingen 50mm f2.8 I "accidentally adopted" last week.

Good to know it's happened to someone else - heh...

I did try to do some google'ing and all I've found out so far is that the Promura is a rebadged something... where "something" can so far be replaced with vivitar, tamron, or well... something else...

I know the trick, but the magic has not worked for me yet Congratulations--I do not see how you can lose. The lens looks like new, has a nice 3.5 aperture for 200mm, and comes with a new looking case. All for $23.10--nice trick fido. Please train me too.

Will you post a couple of shots when you get a second to see if its new badge has any credentials? Thanks

Tactics for winning bargain bids, firstly tell yourself you don't really want that lens, then you put in a silly, low bid, a furphy bid shall we say, with a lot of luck the item sneaks under the radar and goes for a steal. Last minute bidding is also a not bad idea, but once again you have to set a walk away from the auction price and not get into an I must have this item attitude. Avoid getting into thinking you must win the item being auctioned, you are there to get a bargain, not buy an item well above it's current value.

Yep, that's pretty much it...

For this, one person had started at $15... i figured "Hell, lets bid $25" cause i figured they had a max of $20... and i was right - the bid was at $20.50 or whatever.... at 30mins to go i was thinking "oh crap... c'mon someone please bid" ... eventually someone did but at a stupid max bid or something - that's why im paying $23.10 heh

But yea, based on those pictures, it does look like a good lens - so i am looking forward to it..... and i guess i can couple it with the 2x M42 teleconveter i snapped up for $3.25 for something interesting haha

I have a Promura 100-300 but it is a bit soft. I have tried to find what it is a rebadged version of but can find nothing with similar specs from the more well known second tier makers.

I also have an Isco Gottingen 135 btw that is far more well known on the web. Promura is just a big unknown.

Good to see I'm not the only one here who's a sucker for bidding on lenses with daft names.

"Hi-Lux"??? - it may be a rebadged Toyota pickup . (in which case, it may not be too fast, but at least you won't need a warranty)

I bid on some of the no name lenses, usually 20 dollars and under. I never get them because most bidding seems to end in the evening and I work evening and night shifts and can never check the bids near the end. Most of the time I don't care but sometimes there is one I really want and loosing it by a dollar is a bummer. Good luck with the lens and who knows, maybe it's a real beauty.

That's what happens when you get emotional.
