Pentax 200mm f4 AF macro Lens Test

Curious, searching google for the 200m A* version and the AF version lens test from popphoto came up.
Edit: new link Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA* 200mm f/2.8ED (IF) SDM AF - Lens Review from Experts at Popular Photography- Photo Tips Simply click the SQF data for a larger view.
Many probably know of this test, but if not, this may be useful. I found it a pretty good read. Gives high praise for the lens.

I'm not a Pentax history nerd by any means... but, the test does not specifically note this as FA or *, I can only assume that it is both. Corrections appreciated.

Cheers

Nice. I wish the street price was still around $1350 as listed in the stats.

Yeah, that's the highly sought after (and thus highly priced) FA* 200 f/4 Macro. great lens, but ultra expensive.

If there was one lens I wish Pentax would offer again it would be a 200mm 1:1 macro. All they would have to do would be to throw the black coat of the DA* lenses and some weather sealing on the old optical/mechanical design of the FA* 200mm macro and it would be ready for production, and full frame compatible. The 180mm Sigma offering is supposed to be excellent, but I would prefer to buy Pentax, even at a few hundred dollars more.

I bought mine from B&H for just above the listed street price in the review. Got it about when the review came out. Very accurate article. The Pentax website back then had a really nice write up. I'll see if the scanner will cooperate tomorrow and try to post it...

My scanner is kaput, but my neighbor had a hammer and chisel which scanned this page. This is from the 2000 Pentax website (which was a better research site than the current one), so I must have purchased mine before the Pop Photo test. I generally purchased FA* and Limited lenses as soon as they were available on the market. Glad I did.

If you can read through the hammer and chisel scan, the information is quite interesting. All kinds of tricked out elements...
