would you buy a FA* 28-70mm today?

Curious to know if anyone would consider this lens today, or would you look to alternatives? How much money would you pay for this FA*?

I just did yesterday and I pay $1000. I haven't received it yet so I can't tell you anything yet except that I'm pretty excited. If this lens turns out a wonderful lens like people reviews, the Fa*80-200 will be next on my hunting list.

I see a $500 dollar one for sale in craigslist vancouver. I think in this day and age, the DA*16-50mm is a better option due to the reduced size, weight, and more versatile range

Not unless it's all that much better than a Tamron 28-75mm...which can be had for ~$275 used.

I'd buy if I didn't have one. It's one of the best zoom lenses by any camera/lens maker. It's also my most used lens nowadays

Absolutely yes... well, if I had the money

In fact, I trust more a second hand FA* than a DA* 16-50, we all know how many users got a bad copy!

In fact, I am waiting for a FA* 200mm that I bought yesterday...

Regards

The new "standard" appears to be 24-70 if Nikon and Canon's offerings are any indication...
That said, the Tamron is a good alternative if you find a good copy.

On APS-C, however, the 17-50 range is what covers the most common 24-70 FF range used by most people, so I'm not sure I'd pay much more than $600...

Wow, $500 is a steal for that.

GO AND BUY IT

I have the Tamron 28-75, and love it, but I'd toss it in a lake for an FA* 28-70

Guaranteed you'd get your investment back if you don't like it.

My own opinion on the matter is that the 28-75 is possibly the best lens Tamron has ever made. It's possible the Pentax is better but the Tammy compares well to every professional series lens I've seen (Canon, Nikon, Pentax).

On top of that the 16-50 gets a bad rep because of the bad copies. Sometimes people forget what a fantastic lens this is.

Having said that I would buy the FA* treat it like my baby simply because I love the old FA*'s. Its an unreasonable passion and it is the reason they are some of the only pieces of retail merchandise to appreciate in value over the last decade. I don't think they are really worth the $'s.... I just think they're AWESOME

Is there anyone near Vancouver that would be willing to pick up that FA* zoom for me? I'd pay a bit extra to whoever could get it for me. I'm totally serious, would need a respected member of the forums to help me out hear in order to avoid scamming me on it, though.

Please please please someone help Send me a PM if you could.

LOL. Too late if it's still available. I asked one of my friends in Vancouver to see if it is and pick it up for me if it is ;-)
