which other general purpose lens pentax has with around 100-200 USD?

Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
I am looking to find what other Lens pentax provides that can be used with a K100D.

18-55 is a general purpose lens, I am looking for another general purpose lens with a bit more functionality in term of zoom and ... with price ranged between 100-200 USD

Thanks

Another lens

I also bought the SMC-DA 50-200 telephoto, it was below 200.00 with the current 50.00 rebate good thru 3/31. So far has been a decent lens.

Thank you for reply.
Can you please tell me that 50-200 is a complementary lens for 18-55 or we can replace 18-55 with a 50-200?

which of this lens has better Macro shooting feature?
Which one can be used for landscape shots?

--edit

OK, I find the lens spec. It can not shot Macro images because its minimum focus is 3.61 ft.

Is there any lens which has a good Macro and good landscape capability?

Thanks

They are two different ranges of focal length:

18-55 = wide angle -> short telephoto
50-200 = short telephoto -> long telephoto

For macro photography you really need a lens dedicated to that purpose. I use a Tamron SP 90mm f/2.5 macro, which I love and can usually be found for $50-100 on ebay or KEH. It is an Adaptall lens, so it needs the right adapter for Pentax. It is also a manual lens, so using it with a DSLR requires the stop-down metering technique (look in the forum FAQ section if you're not familiar).

I hope that helps.

Do you know what the numbers mean? 18-55mm refers to the range of focal lengths of the lens (as does 50-200mm for the other lens). As to whether or not you can replace the 18-55 with the 50-200, that depends on whether or not you NEED the 18-55mm range. Play with your 18-55 lens for awhile. Do you wish to get closer to your subjects? Then you need a LONGER (ie a number bigger than 55mm) lens. 18mm not wide enough? Then you need a focal length shorter than 18mm (The Sigma 10-20mm, Pentax 12-24mm, or Pentax 10-17mm).

Learn what the specs (ie 'numbers') of the lenses mean, spend some time with your 18-55mm, then you will know what you need (or don't need).

Good luck!

Thank you very much.
I understand.
I read about cheap macro filter that can be used instead of a macro lens when we can not buy a macro lesn, does pentax provide those kind of filter?

Thanks

Hmm...never used one. I see a million of them on ebay all the time, but I'm a little wary. Maybe I'm just naturally skeptical about such things.

Those macro adapters would work ok (ok is very subjective!), but if you want quality macro (1:1), you need a dedicated Macro lens. I recently purchased the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG and have been happy. Works as a nice short telelphoto as well for portaits and other candid work.

If you're on a tight budget (like I am) think: "Used".
