Pentax 24-90mm zoom won't extend all the way?

Hi,

Bought his on Ebay new and it looks and sems perfect except the zoom won't twist all the way out to 90mm. It only goes to 70mm and I am afraid to twist it too hard to make it go further. Suggestions?

I assume that it is not covered by Pentax warranty.

So if no warranty, return it and get your money back. It cannot be called new with a flaw/damage like you mention. It is important to complain right away if you want/need E-bay/Paypal's help in getting the refund.

Pentax 24-90mm problem

I've contacted the seller right away and await. It's odd as it goes to 70mm and with a lot of effort afte that it will make it to 90mm but the natural twist goes only to 70-72mm. Also when I get it to 90mm and focus and then zoom back to 70mm it loses focus but not from anywhere else. Damn, I wanted this lens too!

I have that lens and there is not even a hint of any resistance when passing the 70mm mark. Your copy must've been dropped or something.

The same seller? And both lenses stuck at 70 mm? Interesting.

Quite by chance I happened to come across this website. Prototypes 2

When looking at the "prototypes section my eye was drawn to the remarks on the FA 24-90 :

"SMC Pentax-FA 24-90 f/3.5-4.5 (2000)
It was a prototype, or maybe a pre-production sample, of the new standard zoom lens for the MZ-S, It will be marketed at PMA 2001. A sample exhibited at Photokina 2000 was not fully operational, as it could only zoom between 24mm and 50mm. "

Maybe the lenses the ebayer is selling are prototypes ?

Does that make them more valuable ??

I don't know if this is the same seller... though it could be the same lens?
