I noticed it CA's considerably less than when I had it on the K10D. No clue why though...
CA is only an optical problem. Did You test the 70-300 on both cameras, shooting the same object?

That's what I thought as well but others have reported the same thing. I don't have the K10D any more so I can't do that. The only thing I can think of is the weaker AA filter of the K10D may have allowed more CA to be visible.

I just purchased the 55-300 and have owned the Tamron in Nikon mount, so while they are not directly comparable I will give my opinion anyway, because it is the internet and hey, everyone does it

Stopped down to f11 they are very similar, with the Pentax having less fringing and a touch more contrast. Wide open is where the Pentax leaves the Tammy behind. It has far better contrast, better color and far less PF. I don't know if it resolves more detail but the contrast is worlds better.

For the money the Tamron is the best in its class, but IMO the Pentax justifies the difference in price. Mine was $379 Canadian vs $199. It is very definitely twice as good. At $599 I don't think I would have bought it though.

I don't have either lens, but have been looking at them for my daughter who has my old *istD.
It is interesting that at photozone the tamron scores better on the resolution charts than the pentax. (I know more goes into the final image than just resolution). Also, at 200mm the tamron is still at f/4.5 while the pentax is f/5.6 - don't know if there really is a difference in the changeover point. Also I wonder if some who have compared the two are thinking of the non-Di version of the tamron, and if the Di LD is actually an improvement over the older version?

Those reviews sound pretty accurate, although there is quite a bit of sample variation betweem lenses which would account for the varied opinions.. Wide open I think the resolution numbers are too close to call but the Pentax has better contrast and color which gives the appearance of more resolution.
