Industar 50-2 quick test shots

To figmental and anyone else who asked in the "I blame" thread...

Here are my first couple of shots with the industar 50-2 russian pancake lens.

I will preface the pics with the fact that it has rained almost non stop... so I just took a quick break in the clouds to shoot a couple of shots. Also, the lens needs an ev boost and I overdid it on some of the shots... next time I will dial it better.
I can tell this is one of those lenses you have to spend some time with to learn what it likes.. but I feel it is more than just a cheap novelty act... and in time I will prove it

And here is a long shot down my street... I once again had a tad too much EV comp, but I liked how well it did in the crop even with a hot spot or ten...

And the crop

The sun did break out just long enough for me to shoot a PF testing branches shot. Looked better than some of my other lenses in the PF test...

and a crop

More to come when the weather permits

Thanks Gus, nice shots, some are quite sharp and I like the bokeh on the flower shots. Were thay all taken at f/3.5?

Hey fig

I think all the flower shots are 3.5 and I may have stop it down a little on the long street shot and maybe on the tree PF test shot.

It is hard to tell with the lens as there are no stops and the ap control is at the very front and I sometime would turn it as
I adjusted focus... this little thing will take some getting used to. But it is 'cool'.

Hey Gus, again it looks great. It is a lens I was looking for this weekend, but couldn't get a right one. I think there are a 3.5 and a 2.8 version, am I right? Yours is the 3.5?

Grtz,
Rense

I never heard of the 2.8

Hi Rense,

Are we talking the same little pancake lens the industar 50-2...
wow, if there is a 2.8 then that is what I wish I would have got since I like the shallow DOF... oh well there is always tomorrow...

I know there is an Industar 61 which is a 50mm 2.8 but it is a larger macro lens. It has a interesting star shaped
aperture blades in the middle F stops... that one will probably be my 10th or 11th 50mm

Yea, that "poor mans pancake" is the one I meant. Most probably I am mistaken. I will do some googlin' for that.... and report back!

Thanks, R

Gus, I think you're right! There are the 61 and the 26, both 2.5, but the 50-2's I can find are all 3.5..... Don't know what made me thinking there was a 2.5 version of the 50-2......

Sorry if I got you nervous .

I am truly sorry

I am sorry, I can see how the shot below might have pushed some over the LBA edge...
But remember, often it is more about the experience / skills and "the eye" of the gifted photographer than the lens alone...
Not everyone could have taken a shot like this... even with a FA31 ltd...

After re-examining this shot... I may buy a back-up copy of this lens

any progress on shakin' that flu?

Hey Gus, nice shots! Certainly the lens has falling into a good hand & eye. I have seem some Industar 50-2 with English text on the word “Industar” and some are in Russian, Do you know if they are the same lens? My thinking the English text is an export and the other is selling from Russia. Just curious.

Thanks David

Hi David

I think you are right about the two versions... I have read some who say the export versions were better and others who say the domestic versions were better...
