I live in the mountains of NM, where it seems most every bit of land no matter how remote has a fence around it so the majority of my shots have to be taken from quite a distance. I also take quite a few wildlife shots of some pretty fast subjects. Could someone suggest the best lens for my situation. I know I'll have to compromise some as I can only afford one new lens at this time. I will be putting this on a K20D(I also have a K100d). The only lens I own now is the kit lens that came with the K100(DA 18-55). Thanks.

If you will be outside most of the time with good light, the Pentax DA 55-300mm has garnered good reviews. Of course if you find the kit lens to be too slow to capture fast moving subjects, then the 55-300 won't be any better. You'll have to start shelling out the big bucks for large aperture glass. Perhaps look at older MF primes

The 55-300 seems like an obvious choice, and matches well with your 18-55mm. Not too expensive, and have gotten good reviews pretty much everywhere.

The sigma 100-300mm might be a good choice for wildlife along with a tc.
