Look at the winder knob. Much more crisp at wider apertures with the 55*.

(and I own a 43 )

And also try to read the wording on the face of the watch itself. You can see that it says RADIO CONTROLLED SAPPHIRE on the DA*55mm from f/1.8, def at f/2.8. Can't really see it on the FA43mm until f/5. Sharpness def goes to the DA*.
I can read it just fine in every picture from the 1st post. 55 is a bit clearer, I'll agree with that...

I wonder how DA* 55mm f/1.4 will compare against Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 wide open..

The EXIF data for the 43mm shot says "Focal length: 43mm".
Yes I changed the wrong pic. They are now correct.

Thats the point. I dont own the Nokton any more, but when I remember the right way the Nokton is a little smoother and more creamy. But I will check that next week when I meet a friend with his Nokton. I think the DA* lives more in the bokeh house of the FA43. Nokton is Nokton. I dont know any other lens that renders in the Nokton way.

The Nokton renders stuff weirdly, but beautifully. The way it renders bokeh is an anomaly of the lens and considered to be a flaw, but it's what makes it darn awesome in my book. Dreamy, creamy, weird beautiful bokeh.

The 55 looks to be "just" an awesome bokeh machine, just like the Nikkor 85/1.4 is known to produce some of the best "normal" bokeh in the Nikkor lens lineup

You can take all those pics outside in the pouring rain with the 55, but would you with 43

The second is sharper. Which one is that? The FA 43?

The second one is sharper and the bokeh smoother, so it must be the DA* 55?

So far the order has been DA* 55, FA 43. In all comparisons. Perhaps this order still applies.

I just checked the file names (rightclick with the mouse and then properties) and the first is the FA 43, the second the DA* 55. So I was right

They're identical!

Just kidding

The second one is the DA* 55--I checked the file names.

Hey, hey, here it is.

This could be the one the RML saves her pennies for.

Any chance we could see a shot *of* that lens on something K20-sized? I always have trouble gauging from catalog-type images.

If you want to use AF, there is no comparison

I sold my Nokton because my style is too dependent on AF (the Nokton is a great lens though). So far the 55* is looking like a winner to me, and would slot nicely with 31/43/55/77 setup.

You guys are too clever for me...

Yes the first is the 43. A very good lens, but imho the DA*55 is the better one.
