But I must say THX, it will be my main reason not to buy this lens.

As a f/1.4 lens, bokeh quality must be really pleasant as it will be used wide open frequently.
If I understand you correctly, we seem to have the opposite opinion on that bokeh - I think it's excellent, interesting, and instantly puts this lens near the top of my list. Before I saw those shots, I was a bit indifferent.

Interesting how subjective bokeh is!

Very subjective, without question. Personally, I found the bokeh to be a bit jarring for my taste.

I won't say "never", but I think I'll be pretty happy whenever I land that 31mm (and maybe the 77mm someday too) enough that I won't feel a need for the 55mm.

Oh great. Now I've got LBA for a Sony lens. That's the smoothest bokeh I've ever seen.

Sony STF 135 does DEFINITELY have the smoothest and creamiest bokeh from that test.
rparmar, is there any Pentax lens which has similar bokeh?

If Sony was collaborating with Samyang, their lenses price will be significantly cheaper. Too bad they decide to go with CZ.
I can't jump to Sony's ship.

Pentax, do not disappoint me with your upcoming DA 15mm please? Or bring out DA* 85/1.4 Polar edition?

I have no regrets buying this lens - I just love it. I think it's a perfect compliment to my 31 and 77.
I was afraid someone is going to say this ....

i remember when i complained about FA43 bokeh, you thought it was quite alright. seems like you're not as sensitive to double-line bokeh as other people are.

No, in fact I don't mind it at all.

Bokeh like the following (from a different 55mm lens ) to me is just the bee's knees:

Have received a DA55 now.
Slooooooow AF!
Oh, man.

No comparison to the FA50, which is fast!

Why do we keep hearing this? THe SDM seems slower than the screw drive.

WTF are Pentax doing? Absolute bloody muppets.

Not sure if it should make a difference, but on what body?

After trying the other DA* zooms, I was somehow disappointed at speed: they are indeed quiet, but not MUCH faster...

But I was hoping the latest DA* release should get better results, well, for being the latest and for being a prime lens!

Ohh well... lets see what the real deal is down the road...

Maybe the newer bodies will have better control over the SDM functions...

Yeah, while I am utterly blown away by the new DA*300 I just picked up, the one thing to fault it for is slower AF than the Toki 80-200/2.8 screw-drive AF it replaces. Same goes for the DA50-135 that covers the wider range of the Toki. And my old prime screw-drives focus faster and hunt less than the DA*16-50.

SDM is not impressing me. But I'll take the quiet + all the other DA* goodness.

FWIW, isn't AF speed linked to throw of focus ring? So wouldn't it be natural that they'd build the DA*55 with a long throw for finely-tuned focus, but also produce slow AF in the process? Not that I understand such things...
