Takumar 135mm f:2.5

What exactly is this? It's not in the lens database. There's one on ebay.

Is it the same as SMC Pentax 135mm F2.5?

This is the link you want: Pentax Lens Review Database - 135mm F2.5 Bayonet

It's under Other Pentax Bayonet Primes, probably because it wasn't marketed as an SMC Pentax lens. Plenty of reviews - the Takumar 135mm seems to be fairly widely available used, probably because they were a lower cost line of lenses.

It's in the "other bayonet primes" category:

Pentax Lens Review Database - 135mm F2.5 Bayonet

The Takumar Bayonets aren't very highly regarded compared to the original Takumars or K, M, and A lenses.

Despite the average price in the review section, this lens is not worth the $69 eBay price, although that lens is in decent condition. I would maybe pay $40 tops. Some better choices are often cheaper, like the Sears MC 135/2.8.

Also the Sears 135mm pka macro version is good also plus as the A setting.

In that case, consider either the AF lenses by Sigma or Tamron in 70-200mm f2.8. They will be in the price range you mentioned regarding the DA 200mm and the DA* lens.

One of the great things about the Sears 135mm is the price. Here is one example:

Sears 1:2.8 135mm Bayonet Lens - eBay (item 130287568487 end time Feb-19-09 19:05:23 PST)

It's at $1 now, plus $6 shipping. Of course you never can tell what kind of bidding frenzy will erupt in the final minute.

I think an inexpensive 135mm prime is worth a try. The indoor environment will not give you as many issues with flare. The focal length seems like it will work. Your light won't change much so M mode won't be too hard. Focus will be the biggest challenge.

The DA* 50-135mm f2.8 would probably work well also, or one of the third party 70-200/2.8 zooms. But you won't find them for <$20 shipped.

I posted some sample photos from the pka version of the Sears 135mm in the Sears Club yesterday.

I picked one up on ebay for $10 shipped, before I knew anything about it. I haven't spent hardly any time at all shooting with it, so I can't offer any comments.
