Help!! Need best generic lens hood for FA 50mm f/1.4

I bought the FA 50mm f/1.4 lens lens yesterday. It didn't come with a lens hood and I want one. But I don't want to pay $50 for an original Pentax one.

Adorama and B&H have a huge selection of generic 49mm screw hoods. So many that I don't know which to get.

Any one have this lens and bought a generic hood that worked well?

Thanks!!

Jamie

I quite like the collapsible rubber ones, which can be quite cheap, and store nice and small on the camera. For Aps-c perhaps you want to think about a 70mm+ equivalent hood for maximum shielding/contrast. If you buy in a store, you have the advantage of being able to test for vignetting too (before laying don the money).

I picked up a collapsible rubber screw on one from a local supplier for about $5.00 last summer. Works fantastic.

This is what I use on my FA 50:

Kalt | 49mm Metal Lens Hood | NPMLH49 | B&H Photo Video

At $8.95 and all metal, you can't beat it.

if you can find them, heliopan metal hoods, circular rings that don't flare out

I just use the old Takumar hood that comes with my old takumar lens. since it's 49mm, works pretty much for all my Pentax and Takumar lens.

extra long rubber lens hood

I bought an extra-long rubber lens hood from Camerafilters.com (p/n G0: 3-in-1 lens hood for $5 + shipping). It collapses down 2 position and extend out to 2" - works well also with my FA35. no vidgnetting at full extension. I think it would do better than the typical short lens hood.
Camerafilters.com - Detail
just a note: this lens hood is best for small lens size, for bigger diameter lens, the aspect ratio is not favorable.
