SMCP-F 7-210 f4-5.6 wont focus to infinity on Ds?

Pulled out my trusty F 70-210 ED the other day only to find that it will no longer focus to infinity....focus ring is still smooth, but when at infinity, shots are definitely out of focus, even when AF locks on subject at 200' +. (Tried several focal lengths) Any recommendations? Possible to repair w/o paying more than price of a good used model?

Is the lens still sharp at shorter focal lengths? I'n just wondering if you may not have some internal problems, maybe fungus (sometimes hard to discern), that become more apparent at longer focal lengths. I have two of these, and their much vaunted sharpness certainly didn't strike me on first use, even at f8 and f11. I found the SMC-A 70-210 sharper.

Problem only rears it's ugly head when I focus at infinity...I can shoot at near or middle distances, and images are sharp.

Greetings!

I had this problem with a 400mm Vivitar. Eventually removed the skylight filter and infinity focus worked again
