lol wow its as if someone was thinking the same thing as me!
I just pulled the trigger> friday
I have had the Quantaray 70-300 Telephoto Macro (Its actually a Tamron Lens rebranded to be a Quantaray for Ritz Camera) for about a year and a half now but I knew that there was something better out there. So basically my Quantaray= your tamron dilemma
Reading reviews and seeing the price come down I finally pounced on it and Im glad I did.
Though I might not be able to give the most comprehensive review yet as I only jut got the lens I have noticed that the lens color rendition and sharpness appear to be MUCH better than my quantaray (tamron). The Pentax 55-300 was faster to focus, has a much sturdier and compact build. Despite only an F5.8 at the 300mm range as apposed to the Quantaray F5.6 at the 300mm range I found the pentax to be much better.
The Quantaray was a GREAT learning lens and at only 100 bucks it couldnt be beat. seeing that I am getting more serious now, the Pentax is a much better option.
It didnt matter if it was mounted on my K20d or K10d. I found the images to be better overall in both cases. I am definitely a happy camper for now
p.s. in terms of price i paid 290 @ amazon
