35mm 2.8 Limited on 1.3x crop*

Ok, first to come clean.

This is not a 35mm limited. It is the Tokina 35mm macro, which is more or less the same lens plus a dog ugly casing and a much appreciated focus limiter switch.

This was shot on a canon 1d mkII (8mp 1.3 crop). My k10d gets almost no use because of this tokina lens.

I flat out love this lens on a 1.3x crop body. Cmmon pentax, release a larger sensor!

I have actually heard of this lens referred to as a "Pentax 35mm LTD dressed up in drag"

I usually call it that (and have done so several times on this forum).

Pentax really shot themselves in the foot with this lens. It is one of the few reasons I started using my motorsports kit(and not my pentax) for walkaround photography.

I can't get what you are saying. You like it with an effective FOV of 46mm but don't at 52mm? Makes no sense to me.

Maybe that's what he's saying...

On a 1.3x crop sensor, 35mm (OK, 34.5mm if you want to be precise) is its normal lens focal length.

A 1.3x crop sensor has 50% more area than a 1.5x. Hmmm...just thinking aloud about the implications if Pentax were to go that route...

I used the 35 LTD or 43LTD on my K10d. I sold the 35 LTD when I got this tokina. On a 1.6x crop canon, it is nothing special. It has seemed to come to life on the 1.3x crop.

I usually prefer the narrower FOVs, but the pentax 3d effect, IMO, is greatly benefited by the larger sensor and reduced depth of field. I really wish I could use the 43 LTD on a 1.3x or full frame camera!

Get a 5D and modify 43 you will have it on a FF body. There are people who use Pentax Ltds this way.

It will have a slightly shallower depth of field as well.
