New K20D and New Lenses (Some one the Way)

I was pleasantly surprised to wake up this morning to find an Amazon.com box sitting in our door way. I had ordered some Camera Gear on Friday and the first order arrived this morning (Monday). Inside was my New K20d (I still have my K10d) and the Pentax DA 55-300mm. This lens definitely feels quite solid in construction when compared to the DA 18-55 or the DA 50-200. As soon as the battery is up and running, picts are in order. As stated by others its an odd feeling holding a camera that is almost identical to my k10d . The only real exterior differences are in the larger screen, larger PENTAX print by the flash, the 20D and the black shutter button. I want to do some IQ testing today with both my K10d and K20d body as well as with my Rebranded Tamron (Quantaray) 70-300 and my new Pentax DA 55-300.

Items still being shipped are

Pentax DA* 50-135
Pentax DA* 16-50
Sigma 105 2.8 Macro
batteries Batteries
Flash

Sweet!

today has been quite a fun day. After the morning surprise I finally got to test out the new lens and the camera along with my old comparative set up.

First Impresions:

Funny how the K20d is so similar on the exterior that at some points during the day I had to look down (if i wasnt taking photos) to tell them apart! I only shot in AWB today and I can say that I the K20d has a MUCH more accurate AWB than my K10d which still leans towards cold/ bluer shots. The shutter, no matter which lens I used, was much quiteter on the K20d than the K10d which in the past may have kept me from using it at times. Image quality from the body side of things is great as usual. thanks pentax. I actually really enjoyed playing around with the live view as such will be helpful for my future macro lens. I also picked up a Pentax remote and it worked beautifully with both the K10 and K20d. besides a few extended latches for the battery/ SD card, larger Pentax Print, Larger screen (sweet!), and the K20D label, there is the same durable and ergonomically friendly exterior.

For the lenses (comparing my Quantaray[really a Tamron lens but rebranded] 70-300 and the Pentax DA 55-300), set to identical or almost identical parameters in terms of WB, shutter, ISO, and Aperture, I found the Pentax 55-300 performed well is almost every respect. Sharpness, color, ect all appeared much better. Images overall were even clearer on my K20d.

the 4 alternative set ups that I used in order of which I think IQ/Color/WB was the best
1.Pentax K20D+ Pentax DA 55-300
2.Pentax K10D+ Pentax DA 55-300
3.Pentax K20D+ Quantaray 70-300
4. Pentax K10D+ Quantaray 70-300

All of which is pretty much what I had expected.

photos coming soon along with more new lenses...stay tuned!

Nice "new" setup you have. Covered all your ranges and also macro!

Looking at the comparison shots, the 55-300mm does seem sharper and more er...vibrant
