Oops! Bought a Cosina 55/1.2

Where were all you people when I needed you? Someone mentioned an eBay seller last week who was selling these lenses. So I innocently watched one until the last minute, and the price was still at $175. I figured it had to go above $200, so I put in a bid of $203.13 and won for $202.50. (Tip: bid just a bit higher than the even dollar amounts.) I thought people were paying close to $300 for these things.

Well, I won it, so it better be good. That puts me back up to five 55mm lenses, which means pressure to compare and sell. I thought I could depend on someone else to bid, but now I know.

Ah, that was you. I had my eye on it but didn't bid.

(If I had, I probably would have bid a bit over $200, so you gained the benefit of my, um, present unwillingness to 'splain the expenditure to my wife.)

Hey Dave

Did the seller have more than one of those at that price? can you link to your winning ebay page or give me the seller name if they have more? My 50/55's are hovering around ten...

I think I was the "someone" I Messaged the seller about the condidion of one. He replied he had ten of them to sell and I could wait for a better one. I posted a FWIW message in the lens discussion forum.

Gus: Here is the link to the Seller's Other Items page.

eBay Seller: jrace99: Cameras Photo, eBay Motors items on eBay.com

He has one up there with a start of $250 and a BIN of $200.

(Had to do it)

So far the seller is great; he's already given me positive feedback.

A few years ago my wife said I could do whatever I want with those lens things. It's a dangerous power to have. She knows I'm too cheap to spend much.

Gus, it's a mistake to lump the 50s in with the 55s and 58s. They are so vastly different. I also don't count lenses that aren't functional. I just took apart my Pentax-M 50/1.7 so it doesn't count.

They're quite different lenses, really - an AF F 1.7 is a perfect low-light everyday
sharpshooter - the Cosina 1.2 is more of a specialty lens.

What I'm getting at is that you should own both.

Check the seller's Other Items - he said he had 10 of these lenses. Look at the Completed Listings and see how many he has sold.

Dave that is brilliant reasoning. It makes so much sense!

We could take that a step further and say that we should not lump the M42's in with the M's, the A's, the F's, and the FA's, because they too are so vastly different! That way I really only have one or two 50's then... and that sounds so much better....

A followup post: I got my lens today, just a few minutes ago. It arrived in perfect condition. This seller is selling used lenses so there's no box or paperwork. I would buy from him again. Thanks to monochrome for the tip. I am off to test it out!
