Used Takamur 70-200 lens... what's it worth?

I found a bunch of used 70-200 Takamur zooms at a local camera shop. They were manual focus, but seemed nice.

He wanted $100 for it, but I though he might be scamming me as a SMC 100-300 FA was right there for $89.99....

Thanks in advance,

Ken

An autofocus Takumar-F 70-200 f4-5.6 is worth $80 tops and usually fetches a lot less. Decent lens though. A manual focus Takumar-A 70-200 it's worth less, say half as much as the AF Tak-F and nothing special at all. So...

What about the Takamura SuperCoated 135mm screw mount M42? I saw one of those and it didn't have a sticker so I'd like an idea before I hear his offer.

Thanks!

Ah, now we're talking. A Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm is a great lens, like all M42 Taks. Now, it's either an f 3.5 or f 2.5 the faster one being more expensive and rarer. The 135 f 3.5 S-M-C Tak value varies widely. I'd say for a clean one anything under $40 is a darn good deal. ebay retail on these is creeping up and it could bring up to $70. Condition is everything and value moves accordingly.

Regards,
Mike

A complete kit in good condition will bring the highest price. That's the lens, original caps, hood and case with strap. I was never that keen on owning the case, but the hood and front cap work together nicely. I think there are four possible Super-Multi-Coated Takumars at 135mm. Two are f3.5, one with some extra pins for open-aperture metering on the last models of screw-mount cameras. Otherwise they're optically the same, very good.

The other two are f2.5. Stamped into the bottom of the Auto/Manual switch is a part number, either 43802 or 43812. Part number 43812 is awesome, 43802 still a great lens but should sell for less. My guess for price on these is $130-150 but I'm not absolutely current on price.

Remember that the Takumar Bayonet is not the same lens, and is not as highly regarded. You can get good results from it but it shouldn't fetch as much as the (SMC) Takumars in the same condition.
