DA* 55mm f1.4 & 60-250mm f4 in Australia April. What body part will you need to sell!

Got this email from CRK Australia today...
DA*55 f1.4 and the DA*60-250 f4 should be available sometime in April for Australian purchasers. Costs are DA*55 f1.4 AU$1,540 (US$900) and DA*60-250 f4 U$2,750 (US$1,600).
I read in the newspaper that the AUD could get to a low of 50 US cents by mid year so this price could get worse..

You can't sell something public, right? so you will need to sell a private part

I soo needed a 60-250 yesterday, Come on Pentax you could have had alot of free advertizing if I had one standing on the stage during carnival here ( broadcast through out the caribbean and most of South America live ) with me focused on for 15 min zooming in on my cameras all the time ( the stage was empty at the time no other eye candy ) and ignoring all the canikon guys. All you had to do was to have a 60-250 for sale 1 week ago where I could get it like amazon or B&H.

Mmmmm, quite a sophisticated pricing strategy in Australia.

Da* 55 for that price is really jaw dropping...

Camera Warehouse lists them as "normally ships 3-4 days"

DA* 55mm - $1539

DA* 60-250 - $2699

Jeeesus!

At that price...forget it! Rather have the Tamron 70-200 @ $1100 or Sigma @ $1400 and have f/2.8 (& fast HSM on Sigma)

my left hand. I can still shoot with my right

It's expensive but I think this is something strange, the prizes there where you live.

This prices is taken from swedish websites (have a look) :

1,250.73 $ for the DA* 60-250

657.445 $ for the Da* 55

Looking this compared to the is a nightmare.

"DA* 55mm - $900

DA* 60-250 - $1600"

my tips to you guys is to buy this lenses in sweden

Yeesh, I've been waiting on the 60-250 to round out a weatherproof kit, but the low dollar added to the ridiculous Australian markup, there's just no way.

That sort of lens pricing is why I avoided Canon/Nikon!

Forget these lenses, man!
CRK keeps missing the boat with their hefty pricing shananigans.
Sure, the Aussie dollar may take the plunge, but it will probably still be cheaper buying new stuff from B&H.

Perhaps this will encourage us to embrace the gear we have...

Check the DPR thread Lance started. I can get the 55/1.4 in Canada, cover the exchange, taxes and shipping to OZ and it's still $300AU less than it costs for you to buy it over there.

If three or four of you want one I can probably get it even cheaper.

I love Australia but the price of electronics is friggin criminal.

The monopoly works in CRK's favour, though.
Local retailers can't beat their inflated prices, so what choice do we have?

I'm not for boycotting them, but it's hard to support local spending of money with these prices...
