Volna-9 (Russina M42 50/2.8 1:2 macro). Images.

I bought this lens after seeing some images Voe had posted. I liked the buttery bokeh. My first outing with the lens, also it's my first M42 lens and my first macro/close-up attempts. I know the bokeh is not for every ones liking, but I like it (that's all it matters I guess). It's not a popular lens, thought I'd share some images.

Some of them already posted in the 'post your pictures' forum, sorry for the repeat. But, i want it all in one place for anyone who may be contemplating this lens. Will add more after learning the lens bertter.

Forgot to add this, used in low light

Images taken during testing at home, the chapstick is at iso 1600 with the K10D, Both shots taken indoors with no flash. I was impressed with the white balance and even the iso performance.

You are most welcome.

I just got it last week and I need to enjoy it for a bit longer before any trades....but, in the future it is very possible.

I absolutely love the bokeh. After seeing some images (only a few around), I just had to have it...I was tempted by so many non 'auto'/AE lenses, but never wanted to get any (not even MF with auto setting) as there was always an AF replacement I was happier with. But, after seein Voe's images and the bokeh, I had to buy it. paid $150 for the lens, and bought my first M42/K adapter and I am loving it. It's a difficult lens to use, as at times the bokeh can get out of hand and suck...but, if the situation is right it is so buttery smooth, that I absolutely love it.

Nice demonstration of this lens.
From my experience the magic happens at f/2.8.
When I tested it against other 50's lenses at wide open, the Volna-9 always comes with better bokeh.

Recently I sold 16 of my old manual focus lenses, but I kept the Volna-9 and two others.
As a matter of fact, the thumbnail in my profile is of an image taken with this lens.

Very nice. I'm generally very impressed by the images that these Russian lenses can produce.

I got one because of Voe's convincing images as well. It does blurr things nicely.

Except for the last two test images, the others are sharpened, added contrast and a bit of saturation. Images are cropped, so the lens doesn't actually magnify it as much as you see here (read somewhere that it is a 1:2).

But, from reading the few reviews and owners of both lenses, they do agree on Volna-9 being better, but some owners of the industar-61 say it's better as well...so, I'll leave that alone....

Volna-9 is a very nice m42 lens. it is a macro 1:2.

it is a real secret anmd rare gem.

pay attention: if you buy an used lens, sometimes old\used Volna-9 have a not good aperture ring.

body is good. only metal.

Volna-9 VS Pentax FA43

Took a quick shot with the two lenses. The Volna-9 wideopen at f2.8 and the FA 43 stopped down to F2.8 on a tripod with 2 sec. timer under indoor tungsten light. Wanted to compare bokeh among other things.
