Ok, let's run through one more old debate for my benefit:

If I can get the DA 35mm Ltd. Macro for ~$150 more... wouldn't that be the more prudent route?

Only if you feel the additional 5mm wide view and macro are something you would need.

Otherwise, the 40mm is darn small and looks really nice on the bodies.

Well if you're considering other lenses, then you could also consider the FA 35/2 for ~$85 more than the DA 40, and get a wider focal length and faster lens. I love both the FA 35/2 and DA 40/2.8, and would have a tough time giving either of them up. Bear in mind, you can get the DA 40 from Prodigital on ebay for about $215 shipped to the US right now. That is a real bargain imho.

Several weeks ago I purchased an FA50/1.4 here on the forums and was absolutely floored by the quality. Then a DA40 came up for sale shortly after, which I promptly purchased. The DA40 is one heck of a sharp lens and renders MUCH more naturally than any lens in my collection. As for other image parameters, I haven't used them long enough to judge. My gut tells me that the DA40 is better right across the frame but I have yet to quantify that.

In our case, my wife has a K-m so having two lenses so close is a no-brainer. And I get to play with them both, as much as I want

Anyway, each lens has its own character (which I have yet to explore) so they would be suitable in different circumstances.

Doesn't really clear that up now does it lol.
