Pentax DA* 16-50

Though my DA* 50-135 has been a bit fussy I havent had any notable problems with my 16-50. Its a wonderful lens and I've had a little longer to play with it than my 50-135

here are some photos from campus

Yes, it is a good zoom, Very handy with this zoom where contrast and colour are quite impressive.

I'm pretty suprised how sharp the center of this DA* 16-50 when I read the review on photozone.
It's almost as sharp as FA 43 Ltd on the center with MTF at 2354 (pass the photozone's MTF standard).

Which is very impressive since I thought before only Pentax FA 43Ltd and Sigma 30/1.4 that has surpassed the 2350 limit on their test.
And they both are prime lenses while DA* 16-50 is a zoom lens.

Here I quote the center sharpness comparison from photozone test:

----------------DA* 16-50mm----------FA 43/1.9 Ltd----------Sigma 30/1.4
MTF @ f/4--------2354--------------------2422---------------------2453

Here is the link for the test:

I have been thinking of getting the 16-50mm but already having the 16-45mm and Sigma 17-70mm I couldn't justify the expense but one came up on Ebay and with a coupon from Paypal I got it for the equivilent of $420.
As it's a used one I was a bit concerned about the quality but I took it out yesterday for the first time and it seems good.

Must admit I thought focus was broken to start with, being my first SDM lens I didnt realise they were THAT quiet.

Very impressed with it.

I know what you mean. When I first got mine, there was a quick very faint hum (more like something that I can only feel with the camera to my face) and a light bump, and it was in focus. It is almost scary.
